Identification and Background

Sheer vertical blinds are a combination of vertical blinds and sheer curtains. They operate by sliding horizontally on an aluminum track and consist of fabric, vinyl or PVC vertical vanes that are connected to the sheer fabric. The fabric attaches to the top of the vanes and hangs down in a beautiful ripple form. The vanes tilt open and closed, allowing for light control. When closed, these blinds give the appearance of sheer draperies. Sheer verticals are operated by pulling on a cord and chain, using a wand to push and pull the blinds across the window, with a wand and cord combination, or can be motorized. They give the ease of use and privacy of a vertical blind, and the light control and beauty of a sheer drapery. Sheer vertical blinds are also known as Luminettes, Perceptions, Sheer Delight, Sheer Radiance, Sheer Enchantment, vertical sheers, and sheer vertical shades. Most often, these are seen on sliding glass patio doors.

Hunter Douglas introduced their Luminette Privacy Sheers in 1996. Since then, many manufacturers have created their own version of this unique and beautiful window covering.
