Replace a Tilt Mechanism on Most Brands of Horizontal Blinds

  • Remove your blind from the window and place it on a flat surface. You may need to remove the tilt wand from the defective tilt mechanism.
  • Remove the end caps that may be on the end of the head rail.
  • Slide the metal rod that goes through the tilter, away from the mechanism. Do not take it all the way out.
  • Remove the old tilter by spreading the head rail apart and snapping the broken tilter out.
  • Insert the new tilter inside the head rail and snap it into place.
  • Slide the tilt rod back inside the new tilt mechanism, making sure to align the shaft with the hole in the tilter.
  • Reattach the end caps.
  • Reattach the tilt wand.
  • Now you are ready to rehang your repaired blind.

Replace a Tilt Mechanism on Older Hunter Douglas Mini Blinds

  • Remove your blind from the window and lay it on a flat surface. If needed, remove the wand by sliding the cap up the shaft of the tilt mechanism and unhooking the wand. Slide the cap down and off of the shaft.
  • Remove the end caps from the end of the head rail.
  • With a small flat screwdriver, gently release the retainer clip holding the tilt rod to the tilt mechanism
  • With a pair of pliers, spread the head rail apart slightly and remove the faulty tilt mechanism.
  • Insert the new tilter. Reattach the retainer clip.
  • Reattach the end caps.
  • To reattach your wand, remove the cap from the wand tip and slide it up the shaft of the tilt mechanism. Hook the wand through the hole in the shaft. Pull the cap down over the wand tip.
  • Now you are ready to rehang your repaired blind.
